Rocking fashion - “Rock al Parque”

Bill Blass was an American fashion designer; he was known for designing more wearable clothes in a time when designers were focused on designing works of art. One of his quotes was (as I quote on the blog’s profile): “Style is primarily a matter of instinct”. I couldn’t agree more!!! To me the way you express yourself to the world is more important than expensive brands or designers. I understand fashion as a type of art, and every single person uses it to express something to the world even if it means that they don’t give a damn about fashion.

“ROCK AL PARQUE” is a rock festival which took place the first weekend of july '12, in Bogotá. This year was its 18th edition. What I like the most about this festival, other than the music, is the enormous diversity of fashion that you get to see. This festival has become so big, that right now, it not only includes rock, you can also hear reggae, punk, heavy metal, death metal and other musical fusions; all of these music genres bring audiences from different urban tribes and make a perfect scenario for me to take pictures and delight on the different fashion trends!!

Let me tell you something, I am going to show you pictures of the people who I thought had the most interesting looks. Many girls might think that they don’t like them, or perhaps that they wouldn’t wear them. But my idea for this post is to show the different styles that you can find at this kind of festivals. However there is one simple rule: Wear something comfortable. This means NO HEELS for God´s sake!! at this festival you will be standing up for over 8 hours and walking around the park, where there is grass and of course a little bit of mud.

The most popular items, and the ones that I liked the most where:
- Combat boots, similar to Dr Martens… These boots can complement your garment into a more rock and roll look, but yet fashionable.
- Printed leggings, a lot of girls were using them and they looked amazing!! although you have to be careful because if your thighs are too wide, the printing won’t look that good, and you take the risk of looking wider.
- Fishnets tights, they were using them with different designs, shapes and colors. The plus side is that this item will look good even if your thighs are wide; actually depending on the shapes it will make your legs look thinner. Try to choose the ones where the appearance is in columns, this will have the same effect as vertical lines, making your thighs look thinner.
- Animal Print; it was all over the place… scarves, belts, tops, leggings, tights, etc.
- Hair accessories, a lot of girls had bandanas on their heads, and they looked awesome!
- Tattoos and piercing will always make you look more badass!! Just remember that in this kind of accessory there’s no such thing as saving money!! There are risks not only with the equipment that they do it with, also in the care that you give after it’s done; and in the case of tattoos, the tattooist and his art can be a risk too. Be careful to choose the correct place for this kind of accessory!
- And the two most popular fabrics were denim and leather; this last one is the classic rock and roll fabric, but in this season denim is trendy, and is being used not only in pants, also in vests, shirts and accessories.
