"Elegance is a matter of personality, more than one's clothing"
( Jean-Paul Gaultier)
Catherine de Medici, was the first woman to wear high heels in a more fashionable way. Before her, they were used by Egyptians, Venetians and other cultures, as symbol of status and healthiness. She had her shoemaker add heels to her shoes, for the wedding with the duke of France in 1533, who later became King Henry II.
But any way, she did it because she was self-conscious about her height and her beauty; it seems that she wasn't very tall or beautiful.
This brief passage of history demonstrates that throughout history girls have been wearing heels, just because we think it will make us look more elegant, sophisticated, and give us self confidence. But is not unusual to run into one of those girls wearing high heels, and who don't know how to walk in them. They look uncomfortable, silly and you can see the panic in their faces while they walk in those shoes.
I think it completely defeats the purpose of looking glamorous and stylish; it turns them into an easy target for mockery. It’s like they are being dressed by their enemy, who wants them to be in so much pain, and does not want them to move... maybe is a way to keep them from escaping.
Another thing that caught my eye in this matter was that sometimes the heel wasn't so big, but girls didn't make an effort in the way they walked. I mean, they want to look elegant with a pair of shoes but they are not aware of the fact, and they keep walking as if they were in a pair of flip flops or tennis shoes, is like they don't feel elegant or chic. So, how can they express to the world that they are well dressed? Because when they walk it looks like they are making a statement that an accident is about to happen.
So when it comes to shoes, specially high heels, not only your shoes have to go with your outfit, you also have to know how to wear them in order to achieve a sophisticated look.
Here are some videos to give you an idea of how some girls look like.

Unfortunately I am one of those girls who will fall with a pair of stilettos, but in order to avoid making a fool of myself, I:
· Try not to wear them regularly, I usually wear flat boots, and especially when I know I'll have to walk a lot.
· Most of my heels are either cone or chunky heels, they are more stable.
· The ones that are really tall, have a hidden platform in the front, this way give an optical illusion, because you don't feel all the height of the heel, but you do look taller.
· I practice a couple of days before of a big party my walking skills.
Finally I just have to say that wearing high heels is NOT an easy job (tell me about it!! :s ), but also, in order to look good, you DON'T have to wear stilettos that will take you to the stratosphere. You can wear something more comfortable and according to your motor functions.
For those who don't know the different types of heels, here are some pictures to illustrate...
